Where to stay in Puerto Vallarta

Where is the best area to stay in Puerto Vallarta?

Puerto Vallarta is one of the world’s most spectacular paradises and has the power to charm any kind of visitor that arrives upon it. The geographical beauty is absolutely breath taking with its jungle covered mountains meeting the gorgeous white sandy beaches that are accompanied by picture perfect palm trees. The best area to stay in Puerto Vallarta is the waterfront area as this is where the true Mexican spirit lies within the place. This area is also where everything happens during the day and at night with the waterfront being the location of the highest concentration and best hotels, superb cuisines, authentic bars and shops. The waterfront is the best place to stay in due to its close proximity to everything and the district is well connected to other parts of the city.

Waterfront area, the best area to stay in Puerto Vallarta

The waterfront area is by far the most popular area to stay in the city and is where you will find a great mix of locals and tourists mingling with each other. This part of the city has excellent public transportation links with frequent taxis and buses that can take you to anywhere that you would like to go. The Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport is found just north of the central waterfront area and therefore is easily reachable. The waterfront is one of the safest areas of the city and this is because the neighbourhood is the main tourist hub of Puerto Vallarta due to that reason there are a lot of police that patrol it.

The main part of the waterfront is focused along the refurbished boardwalk called the Malecon and this was created as a contemporary public space where you will find 300 or so Foxtail palms that were planted in a marine-style shape and to give a romantic atmosphere. Yet the boardwalk was built to portray the local Huichol culture and there is a distinct traditional river stone paving technique, which was inspired by one of the most famous artists in the country, Fidenzio Benitez. The Malecon stretches from the Old Town all the way to central downtown and along it you will find a massive collection of various restaurants that offer Mexican, American, South American, European and Asian foods as well as a decent amount of bars, clubs shops and hotels. The boardwalk also hosts a variety of street performers like mimes, dancers, musicians, artists and magicians and there are around 15 sculptures that were created by some of Mexico’s most famous artists like Ramiz Barquet, Alejandro Colunga and Sergio Bustamante. The sculptures represent important historical people from the area as well as reflecting life in Puerto Vallarta.  The waterfront takes you past many neighbourhoods of the city including the Old Town, where you will see lots of historical attractions like churches and colonial architecture as well as a few museums. The Old Town is a vibrant art area and is home to dozens of art galleries that exhibit paintings, sculptures, photography, glasswork, ceramics, jewellery and much more that have been produced by local, regional, national and international artists. The waterfront will also take you past the central downtown area, which is a particular highlight at night and is one of the busiest areas at this time in the city as there are many restaurants, pubs, cafes and shops dotted around it. The beaches along the waterfront are some of the most beautiful in the country with golden sands and clean blue waters and are where you can do lots of sea-orientated activities like surfing, stand up paddle boarding, banana boating, fishing, scuba diving and much more. There are also lots of excursions and other activities in and around the city which include: Whale watching, hiking, mountain biking, golfing, scuba diving, surfing, zip lines, parasailing, jet skiing, kitesurfing, horseback riding and turtle watching. These can be arranged by travel agents and most hotels offer this service too.

There are a good amount of shopping opportunities along the waterfront with the main shopping malls found in the downtown part, which are home to local and international brands. The traditional markets are found in the Old Town part of the waterfront with the famous Farmer’s Market happening on Basilio Badilio Street on the weekend, which offers an amazing selection of local produced foods and handmade crafts. There are theatres that have English productions with the most celebrated being Theatre Agustin Flores Contreras and there are plenty of live music bars and clubs. Close to the Agustin theatre is the open air Aquiles Serdan Ampitheatre and this place hosts different performers most nights from bands to comedians and dancers. Around the theatres and the boardwalk are where you will find the best hotels, which all offer outstanding vista, excellent customer service and world class wining and dining.
