Where is the best area to stay in Ao Nang?

Located close to Krabi airport, Ao Nang is a great place to stay if you are looking to explore the wonders of the Andaman Sea. Its unique limestone rock formations create a background of extraordinarily beautiful scenery.

The best area to stay in Ao Nang is along the main street or by the beach. The main street is where most of the restaurants, bars and shops can be found. The beach is the departure point for all boats leaving to Railay or the Krabi islands. Ao Nang beach is neither the best beach Krabi has to offer nor the most inviting when it comes to taking a dip, so it’s a good idea to find a hotel with a decent swimming pool.

Ao Nang´s hotels and resorts are set amongst an abundance of nature and even if they are far from the centre, there are hourly shuttle services that will take you to and from the centre, as well as offering motorbike and bicycle hire. There are also many buses to take you to Krabi airport, but the best option is to go by taxi.

The main street or the beach, the best places to stay in Ao Nang

Ao Nang Main Street With a large array of luxury accommodation which is equipped with all the necessary amenities and at reasonable prices, a myriad of restaurants, street food stalls, shops and a lively atmosphere, both during the day and at night, Ao Nang is a great place to base yourself before exploring the rest of the spots that the Krabi coast has to offer.

The best place to stay is in one of the many hotels located in the centre or near the beach, nearby to the various different agencies from which you can book a day trip out to the Phi Phi Islands or travel to Tonsai on one of the boats that depart frequently from Ao Nang Beach to the Railay Beach. Tonsai and Railay Beach are situated on the east side and the Phra Nang Bay to the west, making the centre of Ao Nang Beach a good departure point for easy and cheap travel to other areas of interest.

From here, you can also take the monkey trail to the Centara resort beach, which is arguably the best beach in Ao Nang, located on the most eastern edge and which thanks to its large gastronomical offering, is a great place to taste local food and experience the coastal nightlife.

Nopparat Thara Beach

The Nopparat Thara beach can be found in the most western point of Ao Nang, 18km west of Krabi Town, and within the National Park. This peaceful, sandy beach covers more than three kilometres of coastline and is bordered by trees which offer a shady haven to escape the sun. Unlike other beaches in Krabi, you won´t find lines of sun beds and parasols here, but instead a natural environment which is less frequented by international tourists and is a popular destination among the locals, giving it an authentic feel.

When the tide is low, you can walk from the beach to the Koh Kao Pak Klong island which has great transport links with the nearby centre of Ao Nang, which you can also access on foot or by means of tuk-tuk for around 40 baht per person. Along the streets close to the beach you will find a wide array of places to grab a bite to eat and a nice cool drink, with many small restaurants and bars situated along the avenue nearby the Deang Plaza and around the Luna Bar on the corner nearest to Ao Nang, at the end of the beach and close to the river.
