Best area to stay in Kuta

Kuta was one of the first towns to be developed for tourism in Bali and is where most of the activity and atmosphere is concentrated. It is an essential stop-off point in Bali due to it being home to the International Airport of Ngurah Rai.

The best area to stay in Kuta is the town centre, which is just 10 minutes from the airport. If you are looking for somewhere lively then you should stay on Poppies Lane, the main street for nightlife. If you are craving beach time then it´s just a 10 minute walk from there, although if you are after sea views, you can stay on Jalan Pantai Kuta which is right on the sea front. There are restaurants, bars and shops on every corner.

The main street in Kuta is Jalan Legian which, together with Pantai Kuta, is where the majority of the island´s shopping is concentrated. You will also find a large selection of restaurants, souvenir shops and exchange bureaus. Kuta Square is the area’s hotspot, where the majority of the action takes place.

Most tourists choose to visit different parts of the island and it´s magnificent beaches, with Kuta offering daily trips to different tourist areas, both by land and by sea.

City Centre, the best area to stay in Kuta

Kuta City CentreTravellers seeking relaxing beach days and exciting night life will enjoy staying in the city centre of Kuta. With ocean front access and accommodation for any budget, the city centre is the best area to stay in Kuta. Entertainment and cultural activities are plenty in this area. Waterbom Bali promises fun for everyone as the longest running water park on the island of Bali. The Discovery Shopping Mall houses international brands and something for every shopper. Animal lovers will appreciate the Bali Sea Turtle Society Non-Profit Organization, where visitors take part in releasing baby sea turtles to the ocean. The Vihara Darmayana Kuta Buddhist Temple should not be missed for its religious, cultural, and architectural importance.

The city is incredibly walkable, with Jalan Pantai Kuta (the main walking strip) set along the ocean and lined with many souvenir shops, surfing schools, restaurants, and kiosks. Poppies Lane I and II branch off from Jalan Pantai Kuta and meet Jalan Raya Legian. These side-streets are known for raging nightlife and budget accommodation. The Sky Garden complex, located on the corner of Poppies II and Jalan Legian, is a particularly popular venue with four levels of bars and a rooftop dance floor. This makes the Poppies a fun area to stay for backpackers and party animals.

Those looking for a more luxurious experience, may consider staying in the northern part of the city centre, known as Seminyak, where more expansive resorts and spas dominate the hotel scene. Seminyak is also a lovely area of the city centre for foodies, as it houses some of the island’s fanciest dining establishments. The city centre is the best area to stay for transport connecting to the rest of Bali’s island destinations. The island’s shuttle bus network connects here, with many stops frequenting Jalan Legian.

It is the best area to stay for a peaceful and quiet vacation in Bali. Families will enjoy the calm waves in this region, along with the Circus Water Park on Jalan Kediri.

Tuban is close enough to the city centre (10 minutes by car) to enjoy the excitement and touristic opportunities, but far enough to ensure a relaxing and serene escape.
