Kentucky’s largest city, Louisville is the business and cultural center of the Bluegrass State. With a city proper population of slightly more than 600,000 residents, Louisville is known as Falls City based on its location on the banks of the Ohio River, as well as Derby City with the world-famous Kentucky Derby horse race taking place here each May. Metro Louisville encompassing the city and suburbs in Jefferson County has a population of 1.4 million. The city is known as the home of boxer Muhammad Ali, the Louisville Slugger Company of baseball bat fame, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and for an active culinary scene with the Bourbon Trail distillery tour starting here.
Louisville’s downtown is the best place to stay when visiting. Major theaters plus dozens of restaurants and clubs are located within walking distance of downtown’s many hotels, such as the Louisville Slugger Museum, the Kentucky International Convention Center, and KFC Yum! Center where large concerts and University of Louisville men’s and women’s sports are played. Five of the 18 distilleries along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail are located downtown, too.On the map, which shows the most convenient area to stay in Louisville, Kentucky, you can see a selection of some of the best located hotels.
