Where is the best area to stay in Siena?
By Carles Barcelo. Updated October 27, 2023
Siena is an essential destination when visiting Tuscany. La Piazza del Campo is the most beautiful square in Europe and thus one of the most beautiful in the world. The city of Siena is quite small meaning the location of your accommodation is not so much of a problem as it is in other large cities. However, if you want to get the most out of your stay (one day is enough to visit Siena) it’s best to stay in the historic centre.
Declared as a World Heritage site in 1995, Siena´s historic centre is the living recreation of a medieval Italian city. Wandering its many history filled streets, combined with a visit to the Piazza del Campo make for a perfect trip. Siena´s other main attraction is its Cathedral (Duomo), an excellent example of gothic Italian architecture.
If you are travelling around Tuscany by train, you will have to catch a bus or taxi from Siena´s station to the city centre. If arriving by car, it’s important to know that traffic is restricted in central Siena so it’s best to leave the car in cark parks on the outskirts of the city and walk the remaining 10 minutes into the centre.
On the map, which shows the best location to stay in Siena, you can see a selection of some of the best located hotels.
