What is the best area to stay in Savannah GA?

If you are looking to sample some true Southern Culture, look no further than Savannah, Georgia - where the live oaks decorate the history-laden streets, the tea is sweet as can be, and the people are filled with that “southern hospitality” we hear about in the movies. Known as one of the most charming areas of the Southeastern United States, you can wander through the live oaks while you explore and experience some of the Savannah staples that simply cannot be beat. So grab your friends or family (or both), pack your sweet tooth, and get ready for an absolutely delightful time, y’all!
When selecting a space to stay in Savannah, if you are looking for an authentic experience, look no further than the Historic District in the heart of downtown. Here you will experience life like the locals by walking through the many historic squares or treating yourself to downtown favorites like a scoop of delicious ice cream at Leopold's. If you’re looking for something a little stronger, grab a frozen drink to-go from Wet Willies to keep you cool in that warm southern sun, yes, you can take alcohol to go in the historic district. If that’s not reason enough to sell you on downtown, we aren’t sure what is!
The Historic District offers you the chance to immerse yourself in the history this city by the sea has endured throughout the decades. Wander through many museums like the Savannah History Museum which tells the tale of Savannah through the American Revolution and Civil War. Enjoy the weather by taking a stroll through the famous Forsyth Park, and if you happen to be visiting during the month of March (Savannah has one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the nation) you will be treated to a fountain-dyed green!
ust west of Savannah lies the beautiful suburb of Pooler. This relaxed area to stay is easily accessible to downtown, 20 minutes by car, and offers unique activities of its own, such as the famous Mighty 8th Airforce Museum, the Tom Triplett Community Park, and the Tanger Outlet Mall. The Mighty 8th Airforce Museum promises an inspiring visit, as exhibits focus on the patriotism and courage of United States service men and women beginning with the Eighth Airforce of World War II up to modern military.
Perhaps the most unique spot to stay on our list is Tybee Island, located off the coast of Savannah hugging the Atlantic Ocean. Tybee serves as one of the barrier islands that dot the Georgian coast and is arguably one of the most popular destinations for a sweet beach escape. Get your feet wet in the ocean, hang out on the pier, and let your toes squirm in the sand as you chance your luck looking for sea turtles, or check out the local lighthouse. If you are hoping for a more adventurous escape, rent a kayak and see some of the local wildlife up close and personal.
If you are looking for an option close to the Historic District, but it offers you a bit more bang for your buck, check out the nearby Victorian District. In fact, it’s so nearby to the Historic District that it touches the southern side of Forsyth Park! You can easily walk from the Victorian District downtown (it is only about a mile) or take an easy car share service to save your feet. The Victorian District is dotted with beautiful Victorian Style homes that are a visual delight in themselves.
If you’re looking for more of a commercial feel with a bit more creature comforts from home, look no further than staying in Midtown, Savannah. Midtown gives you a wide range of more well-known accommodations which come with a much cheaper price tag than the nearby Victorian and Historic Districts, so you can save on your stay while spending a bit more to splurge on fine dining, or trinkets to take home. You can elect to munch on some main staples like The 5 Spot Midtown, or Common Thread.
