Trnovo

One of the great areas to stay in Ljubljana is Trnovo. Trnovo is a peaceful neighbourhood located just south of the old city centre. From Trnovo, the city centre is reachable on foot within 10 to 20 minutes. The accommodations in this part of the city are much cheaper, compared to the ones in the city centre and if you are arriving with a car there are a lot of parking spots in Trnovo, which is not the case for the city centre where the parking spots are expensive and very hard to find.

Trnovo is famous for its beautiful Trnovo Church, for its greenery and for the typical one storey housing units with big gardens on the back of each. There is a small alternative scene in Trnovo, the centre of it being bar Sax Pub, where locals often enjoy evenings with live jazz music. If you fancy a nice dinner, there are numerous good restaurants in Trnovo as well. Some of them are Jakob Franc gostilna, Dežela Okusov and Gostilna Pod vrbo.

Poljane

Another great area to stay in Ljubljana is Poljane. Poljane is a neighbourhood located on the southeast of the old city centre, with its northernmost part ending at the location of the main Ljubljana market. With the Ljubljana Castle hill located just southwestern from Poljane, it makes a great neighbourhood to stay. There are a variety of accommodations here, all cheaper than in the old centre.

The walking distance to the old city centre is just a couple of minutes, this is what makes Poljane so popular among tourists. The area is a little busier, due to the traffic, but there are still a couple of good restaurants and bars in the neighbourhood. The most recommended restaurant in Poljane is Restaurant Hiša Pod Gradom. A cosy coffee place Kavarna pod uro, on the other hand, makes a great place for sitting around with a cup of coffee and talk for hours.

Krakovo

A nice place to stay in Ljubljana is also the neighbourhood of Krakovo. Krakovo is a special and one of a kind neighbourhood in Ljubljana. This little part of the city, located just south of the old city centre used to be a village not long ago. While walking through Krakovo one cannot miss its village charm, this is the reason the citizens of Ljubljana still call it “the village in the city”.

The area is extremely quiet, there is no traffic allowed in Krakovo and there are still many gardens, where locals grow their vegetables. Staying in Krakovo is a good choice for visitors who enjoy the quiet environment but still want to stay close to all the happenings in the old city centre, which one can reach in just a couple of minutes. There are no restaurants or shops in Krakovo, but on the other hand, there is everything one needs just a couple of streets away, in the old city centre.
