Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia, a small country situated on the border between southern, northern, eastern and western Europe. As there are only 2 million Slovenians living in this beautiful country, it does not surprise that Ljubljana has only around 280.000 inhabitants and is still by far the largest city in Slovenia. Ljubljana’s many attractions, huge historical importance and friendly people are only some of the reasons why this beautiful city is gaining popularity among tourists very fast.
While there are numerous attractions to visit in and around the city, most of the places of interest are situated in the old city centre. Due to this fact, the old city centre is considered to be the best area to stay in Ljubljana. With its many attractions, bars, restaurants, accommodations and shops, the old city centre has everything a visitor needs to have an enjoyable and pleasant stay.
As Slovenia is a small country, staying in Ljubljana means you have a great opportunity to visit other parts of the country as well. Taking day trips from Ljubljana, you can explore any part of the country. The most popular are day trips to the beautiful Lake Bled, amazing Postojna Cave or to the relaxing Mediterranean city of Piran.
While the best area to stay in Ljubljana is its old city centre, there are other areas, not far from the centre, that are worth considering as a place of accommodation. Some of those are Trnovo, Poljane and Krakovo.
